In simple terms, you have heated the warm air inside your building, or it has been passively heated by the sun’s energy. You want to retain this warm air inside as much as possible and prevent cold air from infiltrating. When properly installed, an air-tightness membrane acts like a balloon’s skin, retaining this warm air inside your home.
Using an airtightness membrane alone does not guarantee airtightness—it requires careful attention to details and sealing around penetrations, particularly those passing through the building’s thermal envelope.
